The Twenty-Four Mountains Bazhai Feng Shui

The 24 Mountains Bazhai is also known as the Jiuxing Pai Bazhai 九星派八宅 or the Eight Houses of the Nine Stars School, made popular by Taiwanese Feng Shui Master Wang De-Xun 王德薰 in recent years.

Instead of locating the 8 Wandering Qi of Sheng Qi, Tian Yi, Yun Nian, Fu Wei, Huo Hai, Ju Ming, Liu Sha and Wu Gui in the eight directions using a formula called the “Da Younian Ge 大遊年歌” (Song of the Big Yearly Cycles), these same 8 Wandering Qi are spread out into the 24 Mountains directions using a special Na Jia 納甲 method promoted by Master Wang, whose formula subsequently got to be known as the “Xiao Younian Ge” 小遊年歌, which can be summarized as listed below:

Pure Yang 12 Moutnains

Qin Na Jia – ie. If a house is sitting on Qian and Jia, use the Qian (as Fu Wei) palace star plate to locate the other 7 Wandering Qi in the 24 Mountains (in other words use the 2 Mountains of Qian and Jia).

Kun Na Yi – i.e use the 2 Mountians of Kun and Yi.

Kan Na Gui – i.e. use the 4 Mountains of Gui, Shen, Zi and Chen.

Li Na Ren – i.e. use the 4 Mountains of Ren, Yin, Wu and Xu.

Pure Yin 24 Mountains

Xun Na Xin – i.e. use the 2 Mountains of Xun and Xin.

Gen Na Bing – i.e. use the 2 Mountains of  Gen and Bing.

Zhen Na Geng – i.e. use the 4 Mountains of Geng, Hai, Mao and Wei.

Dui Na Ding – i.e. use the 4 Mountains of Ding, Si, You and Chou.

Let us take an example of a house sitting on Qian (because Qian Na Jia, a house sitting on Jia would have the same chart).

Using the Da Younian Ge, and starting with the Qian palace with the 24 Mountain Qian (NW2 – a Heaven Yuan Dragon) as the Fu Wei, we will find Kan (N2 – with Heaven Yuan being Zi) has Wen Qu or Liu Sha, Gen (NE2) has Tian Yi, Zhen (E2 – with Heaven Yuan Dragon being Mao) has Wu Gui, Xun (SE2) has Huo Hai, Li (S2 – with Heaven Yuan Dragon being Wu) has Po Jun or Ju Ming, Kun (SW2) has Wu Qu or Yun Nian, and Dui (W2 – with Heaven Yuan Dragon being You) has Sheng Qi. This gives the reading of Qian and Jia = Fu Wei, Zi (N2) = Liu Sha, Gen (NE2) = Tian Yi, Mao (E2) = Wu Gui, Xun (SE2) = Huo Hai, Wu (S2) = Ju Ming, Kun (SW2) = Yun Nian and You (W2) = Sheng Qi.

If we go clockwise to the next palace – Kan, where the Zi Mountain has Liu Sha, we will see the 4 Mountains of Gui, Shen, Zi and Chen all have the same Wandering Qi of Liu Sha, since Kan Na Gui and all these 4 Mountains belong together. This gives Gui (N3), Chen (SE1) and Shen (SW3) = Liu Sha.

Next palace is Gen, Gen = Tian Yi and Gen Na Bing, therefore Bing (S1) has the Wandering Qi of Tian Yi as well.

Next palace is Zhen, Mao = Wu Gui and Zhen Na Geng, Hai, Mao and Wei, therefore Geng, Wei and Hai have the Wandering Qi of Wu Gui like Mao, since they belong together.  This gives Wei (SW1), Geng (W1), and Hai (NW3) = Wu Gui.

Next palace is Xun, Xun = Huo Hai and Xun Na Xin, therefore Xin (W3) has the Wandering Qi of Huo Hai as well.

Next Palace is Li, Wu = Ju Ming and Li Na Ren, Yin, Wu and Xu, therefore Xu, Ren and Yin have the Wandering Qi of Ju Ming like Wu, since they belong together. This gives Xu (NW1), Ren (N1) and Yin (NE3) = Ju Ming.

Next palace is Kun, Kun = Yun Nian and Kun Na Yi, therefore Yi (E3) has the Wandering Qi of Yun Nian as well.

The last palace to consider is Dui, You = Sheng Qi and Dui Na Ding, Si, You and Chou, therefore Chou, Si and Ding have the Wandering Qi of Sheng Qi like You, since they belong together. This gives Chou, Si and Ding = Sheng Qi.

Adding them altogether we will get the following star chart for the 8 Wandering Qi of a house sitting on Qian (NW2) and Jia (E1).  The remaining 7 palaces star plates can be constructed the same way.
